260817 - here we go again....

hi everyone! (not that there's even someone who's regularly here tho)
it's been sucha long time since the last time i wrote here.
so i just thought about something when i was inside the toilet doing the usual this morning.

and because i postponed writing about it right away when i got out of the toilet, now i forgot what i was about to write here. i kinda remember it was about something wholesome. like, in the past i couldn't even imagine being here, let alone doing my master's degree with a full scholarship. plus i got to learn korean language for a full whole year for free. and being able to understand what my kpop idol was saying was A BIG DREAM OF MINE.

back then i would struggle while watching kpop contents (especially in the early 2009-2010. back then my fave were SHINee and Super Junior)
a lot of their contents were super super hard to access (back then the kpop companies didn't know about youtube yet so they uploaded their newly released music videos on korean websites only). and even if we succeed in accessing the contents, it would be hard to understand because i didn't know much korean.

there were so many websites where you could learn korean language by yourself but it was still hard because i wasn't able to apply it into real life situations. anyways, i got stuck. and since around 2012 i think(?) the korean companies have realized the impact of international fans so they started automatically providing english subs into everything. and everything just got easy. i kinda stopped learning korean.

in 2015 i started learning korean formally for 1 semester when i came here to gwangju as an exchange student. back then i only studied level one.

and last year when i finally came back here to gwangju to start my korean language education program before starting my master's degree, i started from level 2 (oh and i took TOPIK I test before i applied for GKS and i got level 2!) because i wanted to learn properly step-by-step.
my teachers in class would compliment me as a "perfect student" and even got worried that i would be bored in class because "it's too easy" but to be honest i really enjoy everyday and every process of learning korean language here.

so yeah 1 year since that time has passed, i passed level 2, 3, 4, and 5 of SNU Korean here (because we used the SNU Korean book in class) and i've always been top scorer in my class for each level (but i couldn't receive the prize for getting #1 because i'm already a scholarship student)
but i'm still proud.
my teachers for each class never failed and forgotten to appreciate and compliment me and that's enough.
(and i didn't get to tell you that in the middle of studying level 3 i participated in a Korean language speaking contest arranged by my school and i got first place #okayDAESANG)

skip to may 2026. i took the TOPIK II test for the first time ever.
the result came out 2 months later and i got LEVEL 4! that's pretty huge for me... because the goal was only to get level 3 (it's the requirement from GKS before we start our master's degree officially)

and idk why i registered again for the test in July,,,, but i didn't prepare for this test because i just thought more test means more practice, and in the week of the exam i was so busy with level 5 class' assignments and the test date was literally one day before the midterm for level 5 korean language class!! and while doing the exam, i felt that it was kinda harder than the previous exam that i took and i thought i did worse for the writing section.... so that's why i didn't expect much from this exam. i probably would get level 3 (worse) or if i'm lucky, level 4 again.

but you know what................. I GOT LEVEL 5???
it's official guys, i passed  TOPIK II with a Level 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i didn't think it's possible because my roommate who's a korean language expert (:p) even got level 5 back then before she came here. so my mindset was, people who got level 5 in TOPIK are advanced korean language speakers HAHAHA but i got it.... T_T

can you imagine..... in just a span of a year i already learned so much and starting from level 2, now i got Level 5............

oh and i already wrote these long paragraphs and my mind is still telling me that this wasn't what i was thinking about in the toilet this morning.
